Computer Tips

By

My girlfriend has an old Dell Dimension 3000 that we need to sell. After perusing the internet over the last couple of days trying to find tips and tricks for speeding up her old machine, I've come accross some extremely helpful tips. Many programs run on start-up and you don't want them too.Ever want your computer to start-up faster and browse the web faster? Finally, I got several tips just to help you get that computer running faster.
1. Clear your web browser's browsing history. I use Google Chrome, which I recommend every one get. To clear all the cookies, history, and cache data for Chrome, all you need to do is click to little wrench and scroll down to "Clear Browsing Data..."

For other web browsers you can either use the "Tools" option and for Firefox select "Clear Private Data..."

2. Eliminate programs from running on startup.
For a detailed list of how to stop programs from running on Vista, check out this detailed blog on how to do it.
Be careful deleting certain things from the registry! Certain things are required for system startup. You need to do a google search for the program to see if it is potentially dangerous!
The two websites I found particularly helpful are Bleeping Computer and PrevX.

3. Get a good spyware remover!
Personally, Spy Sweeper is my favorite program for getting rid of all that unwanted adware and spyware. However, some of you out there might want something free. AVG offers a free version of their product, which is excellent. You can upgrade to the full version which offers top-of-the-line protection! Last but not least, Spybot Search & Destroy has been and still is one of my favorite, free spyware remover programs.

Hope that helps get your PC running just a bit faster!
There's tons of other helpful walkthroughs and guides out there, just do a google search!
